Stop #42: Mom told me that Charleston was more charming than Savannah. Paula told me Savannah was more charming than Charleston. Tom went to the Citadel, so he’s partial to Charleston, and from what I can tell, Paula doesn’t have any biases and based on my limited experience in both cities, I agree with Paula. Sorry, Mom. They have erratic behaving horses in Charleston. Can’t mean anything good.
Savannah was really beautiful. I would describe it as a bigger, and obviously more Southern version of Portland, Maine. I happen to love Portland, Maine, so this is a pretty big compliment. History radiates from the buildings, cobblestones, and quiet streets. If it wasn’t 100 degrees with 125% humidity all the time, I could definitely see myself living here.
The night we arrived, there were some pretty serious thunderstorms rolling in, which made for a very dramatic backdrop as we searched for dinner along the waterfront. This picture doesn’t capture it, but it was magnificent.

The next day, we did a little touristing, including going to Huey’s on Paula’s recommendation. I ordered the beignets which Luna loved as much as I did (pictured above). Everything was delicious!

I absolutely loved the trees. The moss and dramatic weeping just adds to the romance of this city.

The riverfront was really quaint until a gigantic freighter pulled through.

There are monuments and statues all over the city. This one happened to be right outside our hotel. Luna clearly was a fan.

I really enjoyed Savannah and would definitely come back and visit for longer in the future. For now though, we are off to see some more friends in Florida!
Lesson of the Day: Mom isn’t always right. Then again, perhaps I should give Charleston a fair shot and stay more than a few hours.
