Stop #39: Asheville, NC

Stop #39: I had very low expectations for Asheville, NC. I had been told it was a town made for Blue Hairs. However, I found it to be a very enjoyable stop between the Great Smoky Mountains and Myrtle Beach. The Biltmore Estate is located in Asheville. What’s that you ask? Well, it puts almost all of the Newport Mansions to shame, that’s for damn sure.

When I went in to buy my entrance ticket, I just handed my credit card to the attendant. I just assumed that it would be the standard $20 admission fee. MISTAKE!! $69 later, I had my admission ticket to the estate. It didn’t matter that we wouldn’t be going in the estate itself, because shocking as it may seem, Luna wasn’t allowed inside. Uggh…

The grounds were unbelievably beautiful. As you can see, Luna appreciated the finely manicured lawn.

There were beautiful greenhouses as well.

And of course coy ponds.

The estate was massive, and for me it was very difficult to navigate. I was trying to find one of the restaurants on the estate, which was apparently on the one road out of the estate but I couldn’t seem to find it. Who knows. I mean, I have seemed to navigate many roads across the US with relative success. Put me on an expansive estate, with one single road, and I can’t figure anything out. Don’t ask me to try to explain it. I was lost. We had to got to Moe’s.

Lesson of the Day: Don’t assume a $20 entrance fee. Such assumptions could cost you $50 more than expected.
