We made it to the West Coast!! And wow…I had no idea how much I would like Western WA. It’s amazing how much the state changes as you drive from East to West. The drive from Ellensburg to Seattle was only about 107 miles, which only took about 2 hours. I wasn’t a huge fan on the eastern side of the state, but about 75 miles out from Seattle, the landscape completely changes. It becomes lush and mountainous. I’m sure I just hit it on an off day, but the weather was also amazing: clear blue skies as far as the eye could see and about 90 degrees.
My sister, Jackie, was flying in on Saturday night and there weren’t any campgrounds conveniently located, so I booked a hotel right outside the city for the night. After checking into the hotel, Luna and I headed out for our city adventure. We had the rest of the day to waste and Seattle was the place to do it.
I LOVE Seattle! I really liked the vibe, the landscape and the restaurant and food scene seemed great. To me, it seemed like a cross between San Francisco and Boston. The hills were much steeper than I had imagined. There was a wonderful mix of old historic buildings and modern architecture. The waterfront was nice, although very touristy. Luna wasn’t allowed in, but we walked outside of Pike’s Place Market. It was what Boston’s public market should be, but kind of missed the mark.
We had some lunch down on one of the piers and then meandered back to the car. It was pretty hot for the little L. While having lunch, I went on Redfin to check out the real estate prices. Holy moly! I didn’t think that it could be more than Boston, but I think it might be! Insane prices! Guess I won’t be moving to Seattle anytime soon.
Jackie’s flight was delayed so the pick up was pretty late. Glad we had the hotel.
In the morning, we went downtown again. This time I risked it and snuck Luna into the market so I could see it. It was pretty early, and a lot of the venders were not open yet, so we got away with it. We grabbed a quick breakfast at a little French bakery and ate overlooking the water. Then we headed towards the Space Needle. The wait was over an hour so we skipped going up and just walked around the area for a bit before heading back to the hotel to load up, hook up, and head out.

We are as far West as we are going so we are headed South! Woohoo! Oregon, here we come!
Lesson of the Day: Don’t look at real estate prices until after you leave a city. It can ruin your love for the city. Wait until you’ve left and the love has faded.
Perhaps salaries are equally inflated?

I loved Seattle too. Probably priced relative to the cost of living, income, etc.
