From Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to Seattle, WA, it’s about a 311 mile drive, but I wanted to see some more of Washington on my way so I decided to stop in the middle of the state in Ellensburg in the Yakima Valley. Being from New England where the states are small, it’s quite amazing to see how different a state can be from one side to the other. Washington was pretty amazingly different. For a lot of the drive it was very dry looking rolling hills, with very few trees. The elevation didn’t change dramatically, and honestly, it just wasn’t all that interesting. As I approached Ellensburg, there were some beautiful canyons and rivers.

As you can see, it’s all very arid and dessert-like, but still pretty.
The Yakima Valley is another areas of great wine producers so once I got set up in Ellensburg, I decided to venture out into Yakima to check out some tasting rooms. The front desk girl had told me that Yakima wasn’t as nice as some of the towns about an hour and half away with tasting rooms, but I thought I would give it a whirl since we were right there and I had heard good things from other people. It was pretty hot out and the town wasn’t all that happening so Luna and I only really made it through one (service was really slow because we were the only ones outside), but that was plenty for us.

We then went and walked around downtown Ellensburg which I much preferred over Yakima. We were able to find the Bull Sitting on the Bench that Janice had requested.

Then we got dinner to take back to the camper and here we are, writing to you. The internet is pretty spotty so I will have to probably post this when we get to Seattle.
We are almost to the other coast!! CRAZY
Lesson of the Day: Listen to the locals even if it means to drive a little farther.
Still beautiful!! Like you said.
